Infant and child feeding index

Abstract: Traditional indicators of child feeding practices are widely used and appear to be useful, although the validity and reliability of those related to complementary feeding have not been established. Composite child feeding indices have the potential to address some of the methodological constraints related to the quantitative measurement of child feeding practices. They can address the multi-dimensionality of child feeding practices i.e. the need to consider the type, quality, texture, nutrient density of food,… Show more

“…The results from the current findings were comparable with Mahmood et al (1997) who assessed the nutritional beliefs and practices in pregnant and lactating mothers in an urban and rural area of Pakistan. This study showed that complementary feeding practices are also not satisfactory and 46% of mothers not giving it to their babies with a fear of pneumonia, these results are similar with other studies (Shazia et al, 2010) and poor complementary feeding is a contributory factor increasing burden of malnutrition in age group between 6 months to 18 months (Srivastavan & Sandhu, 2006).…”

“…Srivastava et al, 98 a partir da mistura tripalmitoilglicerol e ácido oléico em diferentes proporções, estudaram a utilização de enzima não específica LIP1 do microorganismo Candida rugosa para a produção de sucedâneo da gordura do leite humano. Concluíram que a incorporação de ácido oléico ao tripalmitoilglicerol foi consideravelmente menor quando se utilizou a lipase LIP1, comparando à lipase sn-1,3 específica Lipozyme ® RM IM.…”

“…But efforts to measure the quality of complementary feeding practices and to assess the strength of its association with child's nutritional status have been very limited due to methodological problems. This is because complementary feeding practices encompass a series of interrelated behaviors that must be considered simultaneously [5,6].…”

“…Integration of infant and child feeding index (ICFI) addresses the multidimensional nature of child feeding practices into one agespecific summary index [5]. This summary index (infant and child Early Human Development 90 (2014) 815-820 feeding index) could able to summarize and quantify the key complementary feeding practices into a composite single index to measure all complementary feeding dimensions simultaneously.…”
