Infectious Causes of Reproductive Disorders in Cattle

Abstract: Abstract. The incidences of reproductive disorders in bovine are increasing over years. This scenario is further aggravating due to more emphasis on selection and rearing of animal for specific commercial purposes which compromises livestock reproduction. Reproductive disorders like infertility and abortions in cattle are major problems in the bovine industry. The reproductive disorders might be caused by several different agents such as physical agents, chemical agents, biological agents, etc. Also, the causa… Show more

“…Similar to other PVs, BPV-1/-2 replication and virion production appear to be confined to the epithelial region of the lesions [7]. However, new host cell types are emerging [8] and the list of new PV tissue tropisms is still increasing [9], [10], [11], [12].…”

“…Causes of reproductive disorders are broadly categorized as infectious and non-infectious. Brucella spp., Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVDV) and Neospora caninum are known to be among the most common infections associated with reproductive disorders in many parts of the world, but the information about which ones are implicated in reproductive disorders in cattle in Tanzania is scarce [4]. These infections may cause different reproductive disorders including early embryonic death, abortion, stillbirth and fetal malformations [5][6][7].…”

“…Cancer and subfertility are considered two sides of the same coin in HPV infection [47]. In veterinary medicine, reproductive disorders like infertility and abortions in large ruminants are major problems and are of high priority in the livestock industry [48]. Indeed, BPV DNA is being found more and more frequently in both the male and female genital systems of large farm animals.…”
