Infiltration of White-Spot-Lesions and developmental enamel defects

Abstract: Purpose: To provide an overview of different indications suitable for treatment with the technique of resin infiltration (Icon, DMG), such as white-spot lesions (WSL), enamel fluorosis, and molar-incisor hypomineralisation (MIH), and to propose a valid and strategy feasible in dental surgeries for screening of dental color improvement and -stability. Method: A non-systematic review of the literature was performed to characterise inhibition of lesion progression, and the esthetic effects induced by resin infilt… Show more

“…This finding corroborates the study by Rakhshan & Rakhshan, who assert that tooth-brushing induces primarily mild pain. Although the pain caused by brushing is not great (Rakhshan & Rakhshan), it affects a large proportion of patients and can have a negative effect on oral hygiene, thus increasing the chances of developing other diseases related with poor oral hygiene, such as caries, gingival/ periodontal disease, and white spot lesions (Knösel et al, 2017). In the present investigation we observed the presence of other limitations on EDAs related with pain caused by orthodontic tooth movement.…”

“…It is an innovative technology which fills the gap between the prevention and restoration of caries changes to one third of the dentine (D-1) [32]. It has many advantages: it retains the structure of the tooth, its effect is achieved in one visit, a mechanical stabilization of the demineralized enamel occurs, retention of the demineralization occurs, the risk of leakage of fillings and secondary caries is minimized, the aesthetic effect is better, and it is broadly accepted by patients [33][34][35].…”

“…In 2017 improvement in esthetics by this material was further reported by Knösel in developmental defects, i.e., molar incisor hypoplasia and enamel fluorosis. 17 Hence, the present study was conducted to evaluate effect of resin infiltration technique [DMG-Icon] for masking non cavitated white spot lesions of fluorosis.…”
