Influence of asiatic acid, a triterpenoid from Shores robusta, on the feeding and enzyme activity of Oxya fuscovittata (Insecta, Orthoptera)

Abstract: Asiatic acid, a triterpenoid isolated from Shorea robusta was tested for its antifeeding property against the rice grasshopper Oxya fuscovittata. A 1 % solution of asiatic acid applied (1 ml/g leaf) to the host leaf deterred the insects from feeding whereas on a 0.1 % concentrated solution, the nymphs fed and moulted into the adults.
