Influence of basalt fluxes on slag formation processes and physical properties of slags carbon ferrochrome

Abstract: Annotation. The article presents the results of a study of the processes of slag formation during the smelting of carbon ferrochrome from refractory chromite ores of the Don GOK with the addition of various fluxing additives to the charge. Basalt rocks and quartzite were tested as the latter. A theoretical and theoretical analysis of changes in the chemical and phase composition of slag melts is carried out, their viscosity, crystallization temperature and electrical resistance are studied.

“…In this work, using the method of a simplex-lattice experiment design [19,20] and the software package HSC 6.1 Chemistry (Outokumpu) [21], thermodynamic modeling of the equilibrium interphase distribution of sulfur and boron between the CaO-SiO2-B2O3-25%Al2O3-8%MgO slag system and a metal containing 0.2% C, 0.35% Si and 0.028% Al, corresponding to 16 points chemical composition of the local simplex plan. The simulation was carried out at temperature of 1600°C, a working body weight of 110 kg (100% metal and 10% slag) at an ambient air pressure in the system of 0.1 MPa.…”
