Influence of body mass index on outcomes and treatment‐related toxicity in patients with colon carcinoma

Abstract: A current focus in the energy field is on the use of hydrogen in fuel cells. Development of a hydrogen station system is important to the commercialization of fuel cells and fuel cell powered vehicles. In this study, the heat‐exchange pressure swing adsorption (HE‐PSA) was developed to design a compact H2 PSA process for small spatial occupancy in the hydrogen station. The adsorption dynamics and performance of the newly designed bed were compared with those of a conventional bed by using a quaternary mixture … Show more

“…Overweight, obesity, and especially a central pattern of fat accumulation are related to insulin resistance (Lechleitner, 2008). Obesity is associated with cancer recurrence and mortality in some cancer types such as breast, colon, and prostate cancer (Meyerhardt et al, 2003;Amling et al, 2004;Whiteman et al, 2005). Obese survivors in cancers with high long-term survival, such as breast, colon, and prostate cancers, may have greater chance to be exposed to the obesityrelated co-morbidities and mortalities than patients with aggressive cancers (Park et al, 2006).…”

“…Few studies focused on this issue. An elevated BMI is a risk factor for the occurrence of several cancers (Moertel et al, 1980;Calle et al, 2003), and is associated with a higher relapse rate after surgical treatment of colon, rectal and prostate cancer (Meyerhardt et al, 2003;Amling et al, 2004;Freedland et al, 2004;Meyerhardt et al, 2004). However, its impact on disease's natural history and response to treatment is less documented.…”

“…Many population studies (for example Pietinen et al (1999), Calle et al (2003), Meyerhardt et al (2003Meyerhardt et al ( , 2007, Dignam et al (2006) and Moon et al (2008)) provide evidence that excess energy intake and/or obesity is associated with increased risk of colorectal cancer and/or with poor prognosis of this disease. Further epidemiological evidence (Ma et al 2004, Wei et al 2005, Wolpin et al 2009) suggests the hypothesis that one of the underlying mechanisms involves stimulation of malignant proliferation by insulin.…”
