Influence of Brassinolides on Plant Physiology and Yield of Cantaloupe Under High Temperature Stress

Abstract: Cantaloupe is a high value crop growing in greenhouse. Economical crop yield reduction due to heat stress, caused by global warming is an emerging issue of cantaloupe. High temperature significantly decreases the plant performances and finally effect on the crop yield. Brassinosteroids (BRs) regulates cellular and physiological processes and environment response to abiotic stress of plants. To find out the best concentration of BRs for alleviate the high temperature stress of cantaloupe, plant physio-chemical … Show more

“…The decrease in the levels of biomarkers of oxidative stress was similar to, or even slightly higher than the value reported (37%) in our previous work (Yonny et al, 2016). Regarding the increase in yield, the obtained value was higher than that reported by Amarasinghe et al (2022) in melon plants exposed to high temperatures after the foliar application of brassinoesteroid extract (12.5%).…”

“…Heat stress is a rise in temperatures above the regular level for a specific time sufficient to cause irreversible damage to crop plants. Temperature disturbs the balance between photosynthesis and respiration; when temperatures increase beyond the optimum, the physiological activities of plants negatively affect the synthesis of proteins, disrupting the mechanism of enzymatic action (Amarasinghe et al, 2022). High temperatures can also lead to increased production of free oxygen radicals, which further proceed to oxidative stress, inhibition of seed germination, and incomplete growth and development.…”

“…Cantaloupe or Melon (Cucumis melo) are fruit widely cultivated in most regions of the world, cantaloupe has a heavily netted rind and usually orange flesh, or it is a fruit with a rough hard warty rind, cantaloupe are important commercial crops and are consumed all over the world. The cheap price of cantaloupe, wide spread, distinct flavor and nutritional elements such as amino acid, carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins, antioxidants (phenolics and Carotenoids) and gammaaminobutyric acid (GABA), all these reasons made cantaloupe an important commercial crop (3,4). Therefore, it became necessary to develop the flavor in the yogurt product, without causing the slightest harm to the health of the consumer through the use of herbs, vegetables and fruits, Which are widely spread, cheap and safe for health, these plants have been used in a lot of research related to the development of flavor compounds such as basil seeds (7) and water melon (30).…”
