Influence of calcium carbonate nanoparticles on the crystallization of olypropylene

Abstract: The aim of this work was to study the influence of calcium carbonate nanoparticles in crystallization process of polypropylene. Four compositions of PP/CaCO 3 nanocomposites were prepared in a co-rotational twin screw extruder machine with calcium carbonate content of 3, 5, 7 and 10 wt. (%). The tests included SEM analyzes for calcium carbonate, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) for the nanocomposites. The results showed an increase in PP crystallization temperatur… Show more

“…This implied that the agglomeration of ZnO NPs with poor dispersion led to the distribution of the intermolecular interactions between the PLA chains, resulting in a reduction of chain regularity and a decrease in crystallinity. Our result is consistent with those of other research works [24,28].…”

“…The characteristic reflections at angles of 2 θ (14.1, 16.9, 18.5, 21.2 and 22.0), corresponding to the crystalline planes (1 1 0), (0 4 0), (1 1 1) and (1 3 0) respectively, were clearly visible. No additional reflections at 16.2 (3 0 0) and 19.8 (1 1 7) corresponding to β or γ iPP crystalline forms were observed [27] , [28] , [29] . Therefore, it can be stated, in accordance with previously presented DSC data, that addition of BMC and cBMC led only to insignificant changes of crystallization behaviour and did not influence polymorphism of isotactic polypropylene matrix.…”

“…The incorporation of inorganic fillers in PP can change the crystallization process and these changes can influence mechanical properties of PP [ 19 ]. Thus, the crystallization of the PP composites was investigated by FTIR and DSC.…”
