Influence of concrete humidity on the temperature development under fatigue compressive loading

Abstract: Due to research activities on the topic of concrete mixtures during the last decades concrete compressive strength could be increased significantly. At the same time the lifespan of concrete structures has been continuously extended. Therefore, the fatigue behavior of modern High Performance Concrete (HPC) becomes more important with respect to service life. Previous studies on normal strength concrete have shown that the number of cycles to failure under pure compressive cyclic loading mainly depends on frequ… Show more

“…It is clear from Figure 2 a that the number of cycles to failure decreases with an increasing moisture content in the concrete. This corresponds well to the results of the very limited number of investigations previously documented in the literature [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 ] and further ongoing research [ 25 , 26 ].…”

“…2). A microphone at the other end of the specimen perceived the vibrations so that the sound velocity could be determined [33,34]. The measurement was performed 2 Measuring procedure for the determination of sound velocity with the Lang RA 100 [35] by means of the non-destructive testing equipment ''RA 100 Concrete'' by Lang Sensorik (ASTM C215, BS 1881-209).…”

“…The tested samples have a height of 180 mm and a diameter of 60 mm and thus correspond to Refs. [3,7,18]. All HPC samples were produced, stored and tested at MPA Stuttgart, the UHPC research was conducted at TU Dresden.…”

“…For HPC, these 90 days were also used in order to create the same boundary conditions, even though, according to Ref. [18] strength development is largely completed after 56 days. Basic information about the two concretes can be taken from Table 2.…”
