Fires pose significant risks, encompassing loss of life, destruction of property, and substantial adverse impacts on the economy. Therefore, the prioritization of fire safety in building structures must be embraced by all relevant stakeholders, including building owners, authorities, and the general public. However, traditional fire safety assessment methods can be laborious and challenging, impeding the identification of potential fire hazards and the selection of optimal fire safety measures. To this end, this research study offers an analytic hierarchy process for assessing building fire safety. Two case studies are presented to support this model’s outperformance compared with conventional assessment techniques. The proposed method yields hazard ratings of 5.3 and 4.3 along with safety ratings of 5.5 and 5.9 for the two case studies. Additionally, the proposed model yields comprehensible, well-documented, and comparable results. Therefore, it serves as a valuable decision-making tool for evaluating fire hazards and enhancing the efficiency of building structures. As a result, decision-makers can identify current and future fire protection and prevention requirements with greater ease and precision, making the decision-making process more effective.

Due to safety issues when passengers get on and off the subway and spend a lot of time on the subway, this makes subway station signs very important. Moreover, in case of fire and other dangerous situations and emergency evacuation, the guiding signs must be able to guide passengers to leave the station and dangerous areas efficiently and orderly, so as to protect the personal and property safety of passengers. The purpose of this study was to analyze the decision response of subway evacuation signs using the characteristics of the brain components. In this study, subway model is constructed. When you perform simulation using software, you need to fine tune the parameters to get the best simulation effect. A questionnaire survey was made on the components of the subway sign. The results show that the number of people who think that the standard font of the blackboard logo is the most representative of the emergency exit, accounting for 78.2% of the total number of people, taking the image as the first choice accounted for 52.9% of the total number of people, and the green sulfur powder logo as the first choice accounted for 69.8% of the total number. This study makes an important contribution to the research of subway traffic safety problems.

Fire safety in planning of elderly residential facilities: a case study from Korea

In line with the global phenomenon of population aging, Korea is rapidly becoming an aged society. This research focuses on the lack of residential facilities for elderly people in Korea. It aims to explore the plans and current situation of elderly residential facilities and to identify the relevant challenges and issues. The case study of elderly residential facilities consists of three methodologies; the type of facility and physical evacuation conditions, the planning and usage of the facility, and interviews with relevant parties. The case study reveals fire safety issues by the degree of obsolescence and the size of the facility. It was found that the general response to obsolescence was unprofessional compared to the increase in remodelling demands. In terms of evacuation conditions, the facilities complied with the requirements for evacuation instruments, yet generally were lacking in proper instructions or concrete evacuation plans. The status of this was worse for smaller facilities. This research discusses specific issues with the floor plans, and interview records. Based on the analysis data, it suggests directions for future enhancement of the highlighted fire safety issues in the planning of elderly residential facilities, and the relevant institutional support plans as research outcomes.
