Influence of different dietary protein levels and feeding frequencies on growth performance and feed utilization of the Giant freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii with the Nile tilapia, Oreochromus niloticus in polyculture

Abstract: ABSTRACTn 84-day experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of two dietary protein levels 30 & 35% CP & three feeding frequencies 2, 3 & 4 times a day (8:0 and 11.0 h), (8.0, 11.0 and 14.0 h) and (8.0, 11.0, 14.0 and 17.0 h) on growth performance and feed utilization of the freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii with the Nile tilapia, Oreochromuis niloticus fry in a polyculture system. The experiment was conducted in small-scale hapas, 3.75 m -3 each in triplicates. Irrespective of polyculture sy… Show more

“…The fish attains a marketable size usually 100 to 150 gm within four months of its culture period, which allows the farmer to get minimum of two yields in a year (Hussain et al, 2000;Hussain et al, 2004). Tilapia can be cultured with different fish species such as African catfish (Ibrahim et al, 2010), Macrobrachiam rosenbergii (Goda et al, 2010;Asaduzzaman et al, 2009) and carp fish (Frei et al, 2007). Fish farmers in Dinajpur district are also not exception.…”

“…In recent time many more comparative research have been carried out in the field of fish culture (Saud BJ et al, 2013) [19] . The recent example was comparative experimental study of Tilapia and African catfish (Ibrahim et al, 2010) [20] , Macrobrachiam rosenbergii (Goda et al, 2010;Asaduzzaman et al, 2009) [21,22] and carp fish (Frei et al, 2007) [23] . The quick growth and maximum margin profit motivate the rural farmers to involve in Tilapia farming and get maximum of two yields per year (Hussain et al, 2000;Hussain et al, 2004) [24,25] .…”
