Influence of different hosts on biological parameters of the fruit fly Ceratitis capitata (Diptera: Tephritidae) in Tunisia

Abstract: The Mediterranean fruit fly, Medfly, Ceratitis capitata (Wied.), is one of major and destructive insect pests of fruit crops worldwide. The influence of seven species of fruit on the biological parameters of C. capitata was examined. The fruits tested were: Citrus sinensis (Thomson navel L.), Clementine (Citrus clementica L.), Mandarin (Citrus deliciosa or reticulate L.), Lemon (Citrus limon L.), Maltese (Oranger de Malte), bitter orange (Citrus aurantium L.), and Peach (Prunus persica L.). The highest number… Show more

“…We estimated ν A and μ A from the data provided on peach development [44] as follows. Since [44][Table 2], and, the proportion of hatched eggs that become adults is 66.09% [44][Table 3], this means that , that is and μ A = 0.0187. Similarly, we deduce that b W = 13.19 × 0.92 = 12.135 [44][Tables 1 and 3].…”

“…Little literature exists on development parameters from fruit host rather than artificial diet. Big variations can occur according to the host, citrus or clementine having lower developmental rate and longer duration but a higher adult lifespan, as compared to peach hosts [44].…”
