The aim of the study was to evaluate electrical properties of the mammary gland of dairy cow during manual and mechanical milking and to adapt the electrographic method for analysis of udder physiology. Udder myoelectrical activity was measured on 10 healthy highly productive dairy cows of Slovak Pied cattle breed. The electrical activity of four quarters of the udder was recorded simultaneously using four bipolar electrodes. The udder was stimulated by delicate twofinger massage, manual milking and mechanical milking. During the experiment the duration of the reaction for stimulation and the amplitude of spike dischargers were listed. The udder stimulation through palpational massage of the teat end, manual and mechanical milking caused immediate reaction. The udder responded to stimulation with an increase in myoelectrical activity: increase in discharge frequency to 2.33 ± 0.6 per min and an increase in discharge amplitude with the average of 457 ± 147 µV. The average count of spike discharges was 3.86 ± 0.97, the average duration of the action potential was 8.12 ± 1.68 s and the average myoelectrical index was 31 ± 4%. Manual milking caused the highest increase in the udder myoelectrical activity. Evaluation of the mammary gland myoelectrical activity may provide an alternative method to study milk ejection disorders and to diagnose mastitis. Thanks to the difference in electric potential between the inside of the cell and the outside membrane, the cell has the ability to response to a stimulus. The recording of the udder myoelectrical activity may be an alternative method to study the function of the gland. The method could be used in the diagnosis of milk ejection disorders and other diseases of the mammary gland. The myoelectrical activity analysis is an advanced examination method for indirect tracking of the muscle contractility through reception of action potentials using implanted electrodes. The myoelectrical activity has a direct impact on the tissue contraction. Before the recording, a sample of milk from each udder's quarter was collected in a sterile way for examination to rule out bacterial infection and inflammation. Only animals qualified as healthy in the milk test were used for the study.

Introduction: Cervical ripening methods are always used to prepare cervix during labor induction. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of oxytocin alone and oxytocin in combination with intravenous and oral propranolol on labor progression in natural childbirth. Materials and Methods: This clinical trial study was conducted on 120 pregnant women with 38-41 weeks of gestational age. They divided into three groups using triplex random blocks. The sample size in each group was 40 cases. The Induction of labor started for the first group using oxytocin alone, the second group received oxytocin in combination with intravenous propranolol and the third group received oxytocin along with oral propranolol. The duration of first and second stages of labor and Apgar score, meconium passing and uterine atony were recorded for three groups. Chi-square test was used for qualitative variables. To compare the main variable of the study one-way ANOVA with Tukey post hoc test were used. The significant level of .05 was considered. Results: The duration of the first stage of labor in oxytocin alone group was 197.25 ± 66.9 minutes which was more than oxytocin with oral propranolol (128.25 ±35.29) and oxytocin with intravenous propranolol (122.00± 23.00) groups. It was a significant difference between the three groups (p = .0001). The duration of the second stage of labor in oxytocin alone group was 56.50 ± 29.70 minutes and in, oral propranolol and intravenous propranolol groups were 42.38 ± 17.17 and 54.38 ± 23.94 respectively. It was a significant difference between the three groups (p =. 021).Conclusion: Administration of propranolol with oxytocin particularly in oral method reduces the time of the first and second stages of labor in natural labor and also reduces caesarean section cases. In addition propranolol had no effect on maternal and neonatal complications.

Our objectives in the present study were to determine the activity of monoamine oxidases A and B (MAO AB) in rat ovary, oviduct and uterus during preimplantation period of pregnancy. It should help us to clarify and better understand possible involvement of both MAO enzymes in the reproductive process. Pregnant females were killed employing a lethal dose of thiopental on the first (D1), on the third (D3), and on the fifth (D5) days of pregnancy. Rats were perfused transcardially with the PBS to rinse out of the body as much blood as possible. Ovaries, oviducts and uteri were immediately removed and stored until the measurement was done. MAO activity was determined by fluorescent monoamine oxidase detection kit. In the ovaries we have found the highest MAO activity at D3, followed by D1, and the lowest levels were recorded at D5 of pregnancy. In the oviducts, the highest MAO activity was detected again at D3, followed by D5, and by D1 of pregnancy. But statistical analysis did not reveal any difference between individual days of pregnancy nor in the ovaries, neither in uterine tubes. Uteri were the only organs, in which statistically significant differences were detected (p<0.001). The highest activity of MAO was observed at D5, followed by D1, and by D3 of pregnancy. Potential mechanisms responsible for the changed MAO activity in gonads during preimplantation period of pregnancy are proposed.
