Influence of foaming agents on mechanical and microstructure characterization of AA6061 metal foams

Abstract: Aluminium metal foams offer low density (∼10–15% of bulk material) possessing cellular structure that ensures unique features with high stiffens, better energy absorption, thermal and acoustic properties. Selection of different foaming agents for preparing AA6061 foam samples are indeed an industrial relevance for better control over porosity and its dimensions, strengths (tensile, flexural and compression) useful for distinguished applications. Three foaming agents such as wax powder, magnesium hydroxide, and… Show more

“…Graphite, silicon carbide, and aluminium oxide constitute the most used reinforcing materials in these composites. The addition of SiC to an aluminium matrix will extend the tensile strength, the yield stress, Young's modulus, hardness, etc., and generally the elongation at fracture will be reduced [2,10]. Aluminum composites reinforced with the particles of ceramics are referred to as newest trending materials since they may be designed and engineered to have qualities depending on the application.…”

“…This was attributed to the effective stirring action and use of acceptable stir-casting method parameters throughout the casting method. Typically, the rise in weight share of reinforcement in composites ends up in consistency problems12,13 .…”
