Influence of heavy magnesium codoping on emission decay in Ce-doped multicomponent garnet scintillators

Abstract: This study is aimed at the acceleration of luminescence decay in Ce-doped garnet-type scintillators by heavy aliovalent codoping. Time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy in a wide temperature range in LuGAGG:Ce epitaxial layers...

“…The presented crystals were fabricated via a controlled shaping process, yielding consistent geometric form. The maintained cylindrical shape of all crystal rods confirms the congruent melting of the material in all examined samples [ 9 , 11 , 34 , 35 ]. The resulting transparency demonstrated a pronounced dependence on the Sc 3+ ion concentration.…”

“…The absorption characteristics of Ce 3+ ions are significantly influenced by the variation in Sc 3+ ion concentration. This influence can be attributed to the presence of a sub-eutectic microstructure, which notably perturbs the local environment surrounding the Ce 3+ ions [ 11 , 15 , 18 , 35 , 36 , 65 , 67 , 68 ]. This effect is particularly pronounced in the Ce 3+ -doped Tb 3 Al 5−x Sc x O 12 crystals where x = 0.5 and 2.0, where the absorption transition at 450 nm assigned to the interconfigurational 4f → 5d 1 transition of Ce 3+ ions exhibits significant broadening due to the presence of perturbed Ce 3+ sites [ 18 , 68 ].…”
