Influence of High Energy Treatment on Wear of Edges Knives of Wood-Cutting Tool

Abstract: The presented article focuses on measurements of extremely small dimensions in nanometrology using tactile probes. It addresses a newly developed method of precise measurements in nanometrology by touch probes, where the measurements are carried out on the machine SIOS NMM-1. The aim of this work is to determine accuracy of measurements on this machine. The main contribution of this work is a creation of a methodology for the measurement of precision parts and determination of accuracy of measurement when usin… Show more

“…The maximum microhardness of 16.2 ± 1.8 GPa at a load of 100 g (average penetration depth of the indenter-about 1.5 µm) was observed for the Cr-DND coating deposited on a hard alloy substrate (WC-3 wt.% Co) of knife mills from the Leitz company, having the microhardness of 21 ± 2 GPa [40].…”

“…Studies in the field of preparation of multilayer coatings by the combination of electrodeposition and Arc-PVD methods have shown [40,41] that these films have good physical and mechanical properties, and that the incorporation of DND into the coatings further improves their characteristics. The treatment of cemented carbide knives with WC-4 wt.% Co by the combined electrodeposition and Arc-PVD method has been shown to increase the durability period of ZrN-Ni-Co coated cutting tools for laminated chipboard milling.…”

“…Examples of wear in knife milling operations can be found in recent articles prepared by Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) (Qu, Blau, and Keiser - [25,26]). Additional examples of wear in milling operations utilizing tooling for wood working applications (wood planing, chipper/canter, timber cutting) are available in open literature [28,29,30,31,32]. Figure 9 shows a series of SEM images from an article [29] by Ghosh et.…”

“…The process parameters used in the longitudinal turning experimental summarized in In this research, temperature measurements was used the artificial thermocouple method because the fast temperature response, precise, compactible equipment and the measurement position on the tool can be adjusted. Temperature measurement can be directly right at the thermocouple position, thermocouple sensor can be placed until it approaches the heat source [Ceau 2010]. The closer the temperature sensor to the heat source, then the results are closer to reality, but this is difficult to do.…”

“…During the cutting process, the flank wear (VB) would increase parallel to the increase of cutting time tc (min) and cutting length L (mm). Flank wear occurs on the main/major side, and the measurement flank wear (VB) was obtained by measuring the length of VB, the distance between the cutting tip before the wear to the average wear resultant at the main site [Chayeuski 2016, Naprstkova 2016. Figure 2 shows the coordinate system on turning machine.…”
