The effect of NaCl at extremely high concentrations from 3.5 to 14 wt. % on the crystallization of CaCO3 was investigated in depth. The static test experiment verified that the Ca2+ retention efficiency (η) of NaCl on CaCO3 scale increased from 31.06% (3.5 wt. %) to 41.56% (14 wt. %). Based on the calculation of supersaturation rations, the high concentration of NaCl could reduce the activity coefficients of [Ca2+] and [CO32−], thus reducing the actual concentration of CaCO3. The CaCO3 deposition rate constants (k) showed that NaCl slowed down the rate of CaCO3 crystallization. The X–ray diffraction (XRD) testing disclosed that the growth of (1 0 4) and (1 1 0) faces from calcite was impeded, while the formation of (1 1 1) face from aragonite was induced by the increasing concentration of NaCl. The inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP–OES) results indicated that Na+ could be doped into CaCO3, leading to the one–dimensional crystal growth. It was further proved that NaCl heightens the efficiency of the typical phosphate inhibitors (2–phosphonobutane–1,2,4–tricarboxylic acid (PBTCA) and 1–hydroxyethane–1,1–diphosphonic acid (HEDP)) on prohibiting the scale of CaCO3.

Introduction. A yield frame support is a basic means of providing the underground roadways’ stability in the deep mines operating in the hard ground control condition when the ratio of the ground pressure to the unconfined strength of surrounding rock mass exceeds 0.33. The operators adjust the nominal bearing capacity of the frames at 0.55 of their maximum or peak resistance Fmax because the frames operate in a dry friction mode spontaneously generating oscillation, which causes variation of the resistance in the range from 0.1 up to 0.9 of Fmax . Aim/tasks. We intended to reduce the dynamic oscillation of the support resistance that allows for increasing their bearing capacity. Methodology. We used a computer simulation by FLA3D model, indoor testing of the frames, and actual measurements in an underground coal mine. Results. We revealed a specific behavior of the frame support that reduced the limit of the bearing capacity by 45%. During yielding, the frames generate dissipative structures (DS) that become apparent due to the dynamic nature of stick-slip friction following the yielding process. We demonstrated that DS control and especially its suppression provides a sustainable increase in the frame bearing capacity. Conclusions. Improvement of the yield frames design and especially their clamps are the prospective way to control DS and provide sustainable enhancement of the frame bearing capacity.

Circulating cooling water plays an important role in industrial water use. In this study, the corrosion inhibition effects of PBTCA, HEDP, and ATMP organic phosphorus inhibitors were investigated using the weight loss method by varying the dosage of inhibitors, ClO2 concentrations, and pH values on carbon steel in recirculating cooling water with a low concentration of ClO2 solution. The results showed that the three corrosion inhibitors had a satisfactory corrosion inhibition effect and that corrosion inhibition efficiency is positively correlated with the concentration of organic phosphorus inhibitors and pH. The average corrosion inhibition efficiency of the three inhibitors was about 80% at the concentration of inhibitors = 35 mg/L, pH = 9.0, and the concentration of ClO2 = 7.0 mg/L, of which the single-phosphorus molecular corrosion inhibitor proved to be the best inhibitor. When the ClO2 concentration was 7 mg/L, the corrosion inhibition efficiencies of the three corrosion inhibitors were relatively stable. Using the density functional theory (DFT) algorithm in the Gaussian 09 program, the optimization calculation was completed by the B3LYP/6-31G (d, p) method at the microlevel. The molecular structures of the three organic phosphorus inhibitors and the number of phosphorus-containing atoms were compared to the sustained-release properties. Organic phosphorus inhibitors, as an electronic buffer, not only provided electrons but also received electrons. They formed a complex with iron and zinc ions in water in order to attach to the surface of the carbon steel and to alleviate corrosion. In addition, the adsorption with a metal surface followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm.
