Influence of ionic association on the B coefficient of the Jones–Dole equation for NaI in water–t-butyl alcohol mixtures at 26 °C

Abstract: Values of the B coefficient of the viscosity of the Jones-Dole equation are reported for sodium iodide in the water-t-butyl alcohol system up to 90 mol % t-butyl alcohol at 26 "C. The calculation of the theoretical A coefficient of the Jones-Dole equation needs the ionic limiting conductivity data. The conductivity measurements of Bu,NI and NaBPh, solutions in water-tbutyl alcohol mixtures at 26°C were performed in order to divide the conductivity for NaI, known from our earlier investigations, into ionic cont… Show more

“…This equation is specifically targeted to fit cases where the salt concentration is relatively high, c ≥ 0.1 M, and ion pair association is non negligible [23], whereas when c < 0.1 M the higher order term Dc 2 is usually overlooked [26][27][28][29][30].…”

“…1,2 In our study of the reactivities of e swith ions in water/alcohol mixed solvents, [3][4][5] the conductances of ionic solutes were also measured to approximate the mutual diffusion coefficients of the reactants (e s -+ ion) in a solvent. Both reactivity of e sand the mobilities of e s -6 and ions [7][8][9][10][11][12] in solvents are affected by the solvent structure.…”
