“…The degradation of engineering materials by slurry/ silt erosive wear is a practical problem encountered in earthmoving equipment, agricultural implements, slurry pumps, extruders, nozzles, slurry carrier pipes in mineral processing industries 1 and parts of hydro turbine components like guide vanes, blades and bearing bodies, etc. 2 To enhance surface characteristics of such components, surface modification techniques like coatings, hardfacing/cladding play an important role, as the use of expensive materials with superior surface properties for the construction of whole parts poses economic constraints. The surface modification by cladding involves the deposition of a material with superior properties onto a substrate to impart such characteristics to the latter to meet the requirements of imposed service conditions.…”
