Influence of Nitrogen Fertilization on Biology of Aphis Gossypii (Hemiptera: Aphididae) Reared on Chrysanthemum Iindicum (Asteraceae)

Abstract: Abstract:The experiment studied the effect of different nitrogen levels on the biology and life table parameters of the cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glover reared on Chrysanthemum indicum Kitan. The fertilizer treatments were administered at 0, 25, 50, 100 and 150% of the agronomic recommended concentration. The aphids were collected from greenhouses in Mahalat and transported to pots. The different nitrogen fertilizer levels did not show a specific effect on the potassium and phosphorus content in leaves. The… Show more

“…Maximum role in population fluctuation of whitefly was played by nitrogen (80.62 %). Aphids: Host plant quality is known to be an important fac-tor affecting aphid demography, survival, fecundity and life expectancy (Dixon 1987;Rostami et al, 2012). Fertilization also influences the distribution and population dynamics of aphid pests seriously (Tan et al, 2012).…”

“…The current trends in the chrysanthemum industry are focused on improving flower quality and creating environmentally-friendly production systems [4,5]. To achieve these goals and accelerate chrysanthemum production, further innovation is needed in improving fertilization regimes and other production techniques [6,7]. In many areas of the world, especially in China, chrysanthemum plants are cultivated under greenhouse conditions, and the over-application of chemical fertilizers has influenced the soil quality and caused serious environmental problems [8,9].…”

“…For both experiments, the jackknifing technique was employed to estimate means and 95% CI (confidence interval) for all life table parameters. This technique is done by repeated calculation of the parameter estimates by excluding 1 sample in turn as described by Meyer et al (1986), and used in the studies of Maia et al (2000), Zamani et al (2006), Hosseini et al (2010), Rostami et al (2012), and Eini et al (2017).…”
