Influence of Operator's Experience on the Shaping Ability of Protaper Universal and Waveone Systems: A Comparative Study on Simulated Root Canals

Abstract: Objective:To assess the influence of operator experience on: shaping and centering ability, mean preparation time and presence of canal aberrations of ProTaper Universal and WaveOne systems on simulated root canals.Materials and Methods:Sixty S-shaped canals in resin blocks were assigned to four groups (n=15 for each group). Group1 (Experienced operator, ProTaper), Group2 (Experienced operator, WaveOne), Group3 (Inexperienced operator, ProTaper), Group4 (Inexperienced operator, WaveOne). Photographic method wa… Show more

“…10 K-file to establish the 16-mm working length (Maillefer-Dentsply, Ballaigues, Switzerland), pathfiles no. 1, 2, and 3 (Maillefer-Dentsply, Ballaigues, Switzerland) [26] to produce the glide path [26], and ProTaper Universal instruments S1-S2-F1-F2-F3 (Maillefer-Dentsply, Ballaigues, Switzerland) for the final phase of shaping [3]. The final shaped endo training blocks were divided into two groups, composed of 25 samples each, assigned to either MDA [27] or PUI [28].…”

“…Endodontic treatment involves a procedure composed of the following sequence of steps: tooth anesthesia, operative field isolation, opening of the pulp chamber, canal scouting, shaping and cleansing of the canals, and three-dimensional (3D) obturation [1]. These phases lead to root canal disinfection, shaping [2,3], and filling [4]. All the steps are important for achieving endodontic success, but cleansing has an essential role in reducing the bacterial load inside the root canal system [5].…”

“…For the non-autoclavable and disposable material as for gutta-percha or resin cones [96], the most suitable method to reduce the bacterial contamination present on these cones is disinfection by hypochlorite immersion with concentrations ranging from 2% to 5.25% for a minimum time of 5-10 min. Similarly, chlorhexidine can be used in a concentration equal to 2% for a shorter period (data in the literature suggest 1-2 min), or 2% peracetic acid can be used for 5 min [59].…”
