Influence of organic acids on locomotor activity of Stratiolaelaps scimitus (Mesostigmata, Laelapidae)

V. S. Moshkin,
V. V. Brygadyrenko

Abstract: Increasing the activity of zoophage Acari in agrocenoses, for example luring them to concentrations of harmful insects, could be effectively performed using attractants, for example organic acids that people use in households and industry. In our experiment, we studied the influence of organic acids on the locomotor activity of Stratiolaelaps scimitus (Womersley, 1956) (Mesostigmata, Laelapidae). Different organic acids caused certain reactions in those zoophages. Acetic acid encouraged this mite to activity a… Show more

“…The main components of the defense mechanism of leaf beetles of the Chrysochus genus are amino acids such as phenylalanine, tryptophan, leucine, and diacetyl putrescine [45]. Some amino acids were observed to have attractant properties [46]. For example, L-tryptophan attracted the predatory neuropterans Chrysoperla carnea (Stephens, 1836) [47].…”

“…CP is also used as a preservative in cosmetics and personal care products. Propionic acid and its salts are capable of accelerating the locomotor activity of some predatory invertebrate species (Moshkin & Brygadyrenko, 2023), and reduce the degree of survival in nematodes -parasites of mammals' intestines (Boyko & Brygadyrenko, 2017, 2019.…”
