Influence of plant growth regulators and nitrogen on Fusarium head blight of wheat (Triticum aestivum L. Var. Kalysona)

Abstract: A factorial field experiment was conducted on the demonstration plot of the Plateau Agricultural Development Project (PADP), Jos Plateau State in 1996 with three variables, nitrogen (0 or 80 kg/ha), growth regulator (none, ethephon or chlormequat) and inoculation (none, inoculation with macroconidia of Fusarium graminearum at anthesis or inoculation 1 week after anthesis). No head blight symptoms developed on plants in the field that year because of the dry conditions. Grain infection by Fusarium graminearum w… Show more

“…The ears of shortened plants are closer to the ground and thus an infection through ejected ascospores is favoured (Maji & Imolehin 2002). The modified crop characteristic was described by Bernhoft et al (2012), who assumed that plants become bushier, which enhances the humidity and the spreading of Fusarium species.…”

“…Meridian is shorter than Semper, so the ears are closer to the ground which facilitates an infection through ejected ascospores from the soil surface as it was observed in wheat (Maji and Imolehin 2002).…”
