Influence of polymorphisms in the Wnt/β-catenin pathway genes on hepatocellular carcinoma risk in a Chinese Han population

Abstract: The Wnt/β-catenin pathway plays a vital role in initiating and sustaining hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, few studies have investigated polymorphisms in the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway genes in the Chinese Han population. The aim of the present retrospective study was to investigate the correlations between polymorphisms of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway genes (CTNNB1 and WNT2) and HCC susceptibility, development, and progression.Twenty tagging single nucleotide polymorphisms were chosen from… Show more

“…It has been confirmed that several signaling pathways are aberrantly activated in HCC development [4]. Among these, the Wnt/β-catenin pathway seems to play a pivotal role in initiating and sustaining HCC development [5].…”

“…Genotype GA and allele A of rs3864004 were referred to hepatocellular carcinoma in the Chinese Han population. 24 Still, Hu et al have reported that rs3864004 A allele decreased tuberculosis risk. 25 In various types of cancers, deregulation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway occurs almost invariably via mutations in APC, dysfunction of GSK3β, or mutations of β-catenin itself.…”

“…Genetic polymorphisms in CTNNB1 genes have been demonstrated to be closely associated with HCC risk and progression in a Chinese Han population. 50 To our knowledge, this is the first study that has evaluated the association between polymorphisms in the Wnt/β-catenin pathway genes and HCC capsules. Significant results were observed in CTNNB1 rs75288535 (in subgroups of female and BCLC C) and CTNNB1 rs4135385 (in subgroups of presence of extrahepatic metastasis, presence of vascular invasion, and BCLC C).…”
