“…In contrast to our results, Beier et al found a significant reduction in the number of NK cells up to 7 d after primary colorectal surgery. However, an important difference between our study and Beier's is that the preoperative percentage of NK cells was much lower in our patients [33]. This significantly lower percentage of NK cells in our liver resection patients might be related to their more advanced disease (metastatic colon cancer).…”

“…A recent study verified that partial EN support during perioperation will not only improve the postoperative nutritional status and immune function, but also moderate the inflammatory response of gastric cancer patients after operative trauma [ 11 ]. Beier-Holgersen et al [ 12 ] proved early postoperative enteral nutrition had an important influence on immediate unspecific cellular immunity and had an activating effect on specific cellular immunity. In our current randomized and controlled study, we provided EN with postoperative patients in the FTS group on POD1 and in the conventional group on POD2.…”

“…Based on these findings, posttransplant management can be altered and individualized. One of the most promising approaches would be nutritional intervention . Nutritional status and management may alter mechanistic as well as absolute number of lymphocytes and affect host immunity .…”
