Influence of Quasi-Steady Wind Loads on the Fatigue Damage of Wind Turbine Gearboxes

Abstract: Quasi-steady wind varies both in time and space and has a great influence on a wind turbine gearbox's fatigue life. Quasi-steady wind fields are described by mean wind speed and turbulence intensity, and the influence of these two parameters on wind turbine gearbox's fatigue life is studied. Based on the two-step decoupled method (the first step is global analysis and the second is gearbox dynamic analysis), a model which can calculate the complex gearbox's fatigue damage from gear's dynamic force and SN param… Show more

“…This method offered great assist on sensor. Xiang Dong analyzed the influence of these two parameters of mean wind speed and turbulence intensity on wind turbine gearbox's fatigue life [86]. Aimed at the AE signals did not achieve ideal effect for complex structures, Wenxiu Lu used acoustic emission signals to detect planet gear fault localization for wind turbine gearbox [87].…”

“…FAST code is used by number of researchers (Nejad et al, 2015a, Oyague, 2009Nejad et al, 2015b;Nejad et al, 2014b, Dong et al, 2012Dong et al, 2013) to assess the wind turbine operational conditions. Similarly, Xiang et al (2017) focused on the influence of wind loads on wind turbine gearbox and calculated the fatigue damage of wind turbine gearbox. There are very few studies available in the literature which considered the operational loads for assessment of wind turbine drive train components.…”

“…Most of the past years papers are focused on optimizing WT from the point of view of gearbox analysis [4] design parameters to minimize energy costs, maximize energy production [5] and minimize WTB sizes [6][7][8]. This type of optimization resulted in slender blades, with less resistance.…”
