“…For this formulation, there are several reasons: PTFE as a continuous phase has a very quick transferring property and meanwhile possesses a small coefficient of friction <0.15 in both vacuum and air, which is due to the reason that PTFE chains can be drawn out at the friction interface to generate an extended chain crystal structure, leading to the formation of the thin shear layer; MoS 2 is for the further decrease of friction force because its coefficient of friction can be as low as 0.01 in vacuum; and GF is for the improvement of the polymer’s load carrying capacity and abrasive resistance . Nevertheless, the PTFE-based composite has a lot of inherent drawbacks, e.g., low strength, too much wear debris under heavy load, , excessive wear of the metallic counterface due to the abrasion of glass fibers, which turns shredded from the bulk composite, cold flow even under slight load, which leads to the deformation of some minor and thin-wall parts, small allowable temperature, etc. Thus, the PTFE-based composite is always replaced by the PI-based composite for preparing the parts demanding abrasive resistance, long life, high accuracy, combination with lubricating grease, application in high temperature, and production of minor and big thin-wall parts .…”
