Influence of Steric Norbornene Co-units on the Crystallization and Memory Effect of Polybutene-1 Copolymers

Abstract: The incorporation of the secondary co-units may not only change the kinetics and polymorphism of crystallization but also affect the melting behavior of polymers, leading to the memory effect even above the equilibrium melting temperature. In this work, a series of butene-1/norbornene random copolymers with 0−4.57 mol % steric norbornene (NBE) co-units was synthesized using rac-ethyl(1-indenyl) 2 zirconium dichloride as the catalyst. The melt crystallization, solid-phase transition, and memory effect associate… Show more

“…Such a phenomenon could be explained by one fact that storage moduli of the composites were increased with increasing DCP content leading to declined deformation capacity and increased shape recovery ability [10,16] and the other that more EUG and PB-1 crystals served as reversible domain were suffered in the composite crosslinked by more DCP resulting in decreased shape fixing capability. [37] Given that two well-separated crystalline and melting phase transitions were present in the crosslinked EUG/PB-1 composites, triple shape memory behavior was expected and analyzed in the present study. Figure 8 presents the shape memory characteristics of EUG/PB-1 composites at high temperature in a triple manner.…”

“…Polybutene-1 (PB-1) is a linear, high molecular weight polymer prepared by coordination polymerization of 1-butene as a monomer with Ziegler-Natta or metallocene catalysts, with a certain degree of spatial structure regularity and crystallinity. Because of its excellent mechanical performance, environmental stress cracking resistance, high temperature creep resistance, excellent processability and packing rate, non-toxic and odorless, recyclability, etc., [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8] it has been widely used to fabricate cold or hot resistance water pipes, food packaging, and waterproof materials. This makes PB-1 become one of the essential materials in daily life.…”
