Influence of Stirrup Spacing on the Strengthening and Rehabilitating of RC T-beams Using Near-Surface Mounted Carbon-Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Strips

Abstract: This paper aims to investigate the effect of using different configurations of near-surface mounted carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (NSM-CFRP) strips on the shear strength of strengthened and rehabilitated reinforced concrete (RC) T-beams with different internal shear stirrup spacing. The internal shear stirrup spacing was 50 and 150 mm. The NSM-CFRP strips were at an inclination of 45° and spaced at 75 and 150 mm. A total of eight beams were tested in this study: two beams without NSM-CFRP as control beams fo… Show more

“…The use of CFRP to repair and strengthen RC one-way slabs has been the subject of various investigations. For many years, researchers have sought to study methods for repairing and strengthening slabs that have been damaged by fire [41][42][43][44][45]. Exposure of slabs to thermal shock, for any reason, would weaken the flexural and shear capacity.…”

“…Therefore, a lot of research attempts to employ appropriate techniques to avoid FRP debonding. Among them, a method of near-surface-mounted FRP strips, via cutting a groove into the concrete surface and filling the FRP strips and epoxy paste, can improve the bearing capacity of strengthened reinforced concrete beams compared with those of externally bonded FRP when the reinforcement amount is equivalent [ 20 , 21 , 22 , 23 ]. Meanwhile, the anchoring methods for FRP laminate/sheets with mechanically fastened anchors which prevent the debonding of externally bonded CFRP can effectively delay debonding and enhance the deformability as well as the bearing capacity of strengthened and reinforced concrete elements [ 24 , 25 , 26 , 27 ].…”

“…Based on the detection and monitoring data, the strengthening of the defective bridges to satisfy the requirements is of great concern. The current effective rehabilitation methods for bridges include the steel plate rehabilitation method [44], the FRP reinforcement method [45,46], and the new-field concrete material (ECC, UHPC, etc.) rehabilitation method [44,47,48].…”
