Influence of Strength, Sprint Running, and Combined Strength and Sprint Running Training on Short Sprint Performance in Young Adults

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to assess the degree of transference of 6 weeks of full squat vs. full squat plus sprint running training to short (ranged from 0-10 to 0-30 m) sprint running performance in non-athletes. We hypothesized that a speed-full-squat training regimen could enhance squat strength and power with simultaneous improvements in short sprint performance. 122 physically active adults (age: 20.5±2.5 years; body mass: 65.8±6.1 kg; height: 1.71±0.08 m) were randomly divided into 4 groups: full squ… Show more

“…Therefore, strength changes through resistance training, combined with the sprint training during the on pitch training may have combined to increase 20-m sprint performance. To support this, strength training only, and sprint training only displayed the same changes in 30-m sprint times, while a combination of strength and sprint training had a greater enhancement in 30-m sprint times (Marques et al, 2015). …”

“…32 Vertical jumps, in addition to being used as a means of assessing lower limb force, have also been used as a component of physical fitness in sport for the performance of actions involving rapid force production, such as sprint-mediated performance. 33 This is commonly presented in the literature looking at performances such as joint and muscle movement patterns, 27 the ATP-CP 27 power supply system, higher nerve conduction velocity, 34 and storage and use of PEE. 35…”
