Influence of synthesis temperature on morphology of SBA-16 mesoporous materials with a three-dimensional pore system

Abstract: Spherical particles of mesoporous silica SBA-16 with cubic Im3m structure were synthesized at low pH using Pluronic F127 as template and TEOS as silica source. The diameter of the spherical particles can be controlled in the range of 0.5 -8 µm by varying synthesis temperature between 1 °C up to 40 °C. A sharp transition from large particle sizes at approximately 20 °C to smaller ones is observed when the temperature is increased. It is suggested that this morphology transition is due to a change in hydrolysis … Show more

“…The average particle sizes and ordering of the hexagonal silica were increased with increasing microwave power, since MSN 450 exhibited more visible long-range silica arrangement. This may be due to the enhanced assembly of parallel CTAB chains upon increasing the microwave power, which resulted in an increased of silica hydrolysis; thus, a more ordered silica arrangement was formed compared to the MSN prepared at a low microwave power [8]. …”

“…Its rich morphology is important in many designed applications [6,7]. Extensive efforts have been devoted to synthesize SBA-15 of different morphologies, such as spheres, fibers, hexagon rods, and film [8][9][10][11][12][13]. Only few works have been reported on plate/sheet form [14][15][16][17][18] with perpendicularly oriented pore which would be very useful in many applications due to its short pore length and thus easy access.…”

“…l The sample MS-C was treated with 100 1C water for 120 h. single diffraction peak in 2y region blow 21 is detected for the sample and N 2 adsorption-desorption characterization data that the hysteresis loop of MSM-1 is different from that of MSM-2, MSM-3 or MSM-4. A well-ordered mesoporous structure is observed for sample MSM-2, and the uniform pore size distribution along the (1 0 0) and (1 1 0) direction [20,31,32] appears to be continuous in range of several hundred nanometers (Fig. 4c and d).…”
