Influence of the hot filament on the electrical breakdown characteristics in the presence of Ar/N2

Abstract: The synthesis of ultra-long high-quality zinc sulfide (ZnS) nanowires of uniform size on heterogeneous substrates is highly desirable for investigating the fundamental properties of ZnS nanowires and for fabricating integrated functional nanodevices. The present study developed a novel technique for growing ultra-long ZnS nanowires on thin-catalyst-coated substrates. ZnS nanowires were synthesized by chemical vapor deposition on a silicon substrate deposited by gold (* 5 nm in thickness) as the catalyst at 550… Show more

“…Chen and Jiang (2013) show that the difference of hot cathode operation mode has a great influence on the arc discharge of high current ion source. Borkhari and Yasserian (2013) studied the influence of a hot filament on the electrical breakdown characteristics for different ratios of argon and nitrogen gases for a wide range of pressure.…”

“…Introduction. -Developing techniques for reliable predictions of the electron ionization coefficients are of interest both for industrial applications [1][2][3] and for a deeper understanding of fundamental plasma behavior [4][5][6][7]. It is well known that the Townsend ionization coefficient, α coefficient by other name, is critical parameter required to model plasma maintenance since the operation of gas discharges is usually established at the operating point where ionization can compensate losses.…”

“…In the case of high power pulsed discharges, virtual cathodes have been studied as effective sources of microwave for both coaxial configurations [9−11] and axial planer configurations, in which many parameters were tested, such as space charge and anode transparency [12−14] . The basic characteristics of the DC glow discharge have been studied in the case of Ar-N 2 gas mixture [15,16] . The breakdown voltage increased [16] , and the discharge current decreased with the increase of the nitrogen ratio because the ionization cross section by electron impact of the nitrogen gas is lower than that of the argon gas by about 40% [15] .…”
