Influence of the Kerr nonlinearity in a single nonstationary cavity mode

Abstract: We study the dynamical Casimir effect in an electromagnetic cavity containing a Kerr medium. We obtain approximate expressions for the time evolution operator as well as for the number operator in the Heisenberg representation. We have found that the generation of photons from quantum vacuum is strongly affected by the presence of the Kerr medium, sharing physical features with the case of two two-level atoms in a cavity with oscillating walls. The nonlinear medium produces a saturation effect in the photon ge… Show more

“…The maximal number of quanta that could be generated under realistic conditions is limited due to many factors. One such factor is related to unavoidable nonlinearities in real systems [303][304][305][306]. Another mechanism, related to the temporal coherence, was studied in [307].…”

“…Besides, they have close formal similarities with general superpotentials leading to isospectral potentials in supersymmetric quantum mechanics [63][64][65][66][67][68][69]. Recent applications include propagation of optical beams in parabolic media [171][172][173] and Kerr media [174][175][176][177] as well, studies of the geometry of the Riccati equation [178] and the fourth-order Schrödinger equation with the energy spectrum of the Pöschl-Teller system [179]. Further discussion on the subject can be found in the Schuch's book on a nonlinear perspective to quantum theory [180].…”
