“…Irritation manifested itself in a short-term increase of the perfusion index and was associated with more persistent changes in blood flow modulation caused by the reduction in the endothelium-dependent neuro-and myogenic components in the vascular tone of the precapillary microcirculation. The irritant effect was probably caused by silver nanoparticles, which was previously specified in some published sources [16,17].…”

“…Through diffusion from hydrogels, the concentration of antibiotics increase and the concentration of periodontal pathogens reduce in the periodontal pocket with no effect to other tissues and systemic reactions 126 . Common antibacterial strategies are to incorporate antibiotics (e.g., Minocycline 127 , Doxycycline 3 ), anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g., atorvastatin 128 ) and ions (e.g., silver 129 , iodine 130 ) into hydrogel carriers or polymer vesicles and get injected into periodontal pocket 131 . These ingredients can slowly diffuse into the periodontal pocket, providing a durable and in situ therapeutic effect due to the adhesion and transport properties of hydrogels without significant side effects.…”
