Influence of the Reverberation Chamber on Antenna Characterization Performances

Abstract: Antenna characterization using reverberation chamber is being widely used and therefore several measurement techniques have been proposed. In this paper, the characterization technique based on two antennas is used in order to determine the radiation efficiency of a patch antenna. This work is conducted in two different configurations of a reverberation chamber (classical configuration and chaotic configuration). We evaluate the stirring techniques used (mechanical and frequential) in both configurations by ca… Show more

“…A well performing RC presents a statistically isotropic and homogenous electric field within the RC working volume with the help of different stirring techniques (mechanical, source, frequency…) [1]. This allows conducting accurate antenna measurements, in particular in order to retrieve global parameters such as the antenna radiation efficiency [2], [3]. Such properties are usually obtained for measurements at frequencies much higher than the RC lower usable frequency (LUF).…”

“…Indeed, these measurements take advantage of the statistically uniform and isotropic fields inside the working volume of the chamber, thanks to various stirring processes [2]. Recently, these attractive properties also found applications in various domains such as antenna characterization [3], [4], 4G throughput measurement [5], and agro food treatment [6].…”

“…Antenna impedance mismatch (AIM) is an important parameter, which coupled with the radiation efficiency, determines the total efficiency of an antenna [1,2]. Accurate AIM measurement (AIMM) is thus of key importance for several electromagnetic applications, including those involving the use of reverberation chambers (RCs), where knowledge of the AIM allows achieving the radiation efficiency [3] and also compensating for the impedance mismatch [3][4][5][6].…”
