Influences of Cerium on the Electrodeposition Process and Physicochemical Properties of Lead Dioxide Electrodes

Abstract: The influence of cerium on lead dioxide electrodeposition process on a glass carbon electrode (GCE) from lead nitrate solution was studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronoamperometry (CA) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Cerium exhibit an inhibition effect on the lead dioxide electrodeposition process. Instantaneous nucleation mechanism can be found for lead dioxide electrodeposition according to Scharifker-Hills' model with three-dimensional growth, which is not influenced by the addition o… Show more

“…When the CeO 2 nanoparticles concentration in the solution is 60 mmol L −1 , the atomic percentage of cerium in the electrodes reaches 8.79 at%, which is about 12 times higher than that in the Ce-doped PbO 2 electrode, which is only 0.7 at%. 20 It is worth noting that the atomic percentage of cerium in the electrodes could further increase if added much more CeO 2 nanoparticles, but a conglobation trend occurs, which influence the performance of electrodes. So the appropriate concentration of CeO 2 nanoparticles is kept at 60 mmol L −1 .…”

“…The SnO 2 -Sb 2 O 3 interlayer deposited on the Ti plates was prepared by thermal decomposition, which could enhance the conductivity of the electrode and improve catalytic characteristics. 28 20.0 g SnCl 2 , 2.0 g SbCl 3 and 13.2 mL concentrated HCl were dissolved in 100 mL isopropanol. The Ti…”
