Influences of Injection Conditions on Strength Properties of Recycled and Virgin PBT/PC/ABS

Abstract: Effect of conditions on the rheological and mechanical properties of virgin and recycled poly(butylene terephthalate)/polycarbonate/ acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (PBT/PC/ABS) blends was investigated in injection molding by using Taguchi's experimental design. PBT, PC, and ABS polymers were compounded in an extruder to obtain ternary blends. Blend was recycled five times. Injection pressure, holding pressure, and injection temperature were taken into consideration as the input. Ratio of signal-to-noise (S/N)… Show more

“…Polycarbonate (PC) is widely employed in medical, aerospace and automotive because it is one of the most important industrial plastics. It is worth noting that further studies are required to investigate the applications for other polymers such as PC [23], polycarbonate/acrylonitrile butadiene (PC-ABS), polyphenylsulfone (PPSF), antibacterial nylon [24] and polylactic acid (PLA) [25].…”

“…A preliminary design was established using six injection parameters: the material temperature ( T ma ), the injection pressure ( P inj ), the holding pressure ( P h ), the mold temperature ( T mo ), the holding time ( t h ), and the cooling time ( t c ). Reference values and range of variation were taken from the previous works on PC/ABS blend, the material data sheet, and the SKG experience. The parameters related to the injection machine capacity were the mold temperature ( T mo ), the injection pressure ( P inj ), and the holding pressure ( P h ).…”

“…The glass transition temperature is about 85–100 °C. The proportion of its three constituent components can be varied which permits to adapt this material to very widely differing requirement [ 120 , 121 , 122 , 123 , 124 , 125 , 126 , 127 , 128 , 129 ].…”
