PurposeIn the digital age, the development of students’ career intentions requires serious concentration since these are associated with the students’ future employment and, ultimately, their survival. This study attempted to demonstrate in Pakistan’s Higher Educational Institutes (HEIs) the role of soft skills towards the students' career development (CD) and their future career intentions (CI).Design/methodology/approachIn this study, the researchers used a quantitative approach and a questionnaire to collect the data from the surveyed participants. Finally, the researchers based this study’s findings on 392 useable samples.FindingsBy employing the structural equation model (SEM), this study’s findings show that soft skills, such as Creative Self-Efficacy (CSE), Problem-Solving Confidence (PSC) and Teamwork (TW) have a positive and significant effect on CD and CI. However, while Critical thinking and Creativity (CRC) has a positive and significant effect on CD, it has no effect on CI. In addition, this study’s findings confirm, also, that CD has a positive and significant effect on CI.Practical implicationsThis study’s findings assist policymakers and university administrators to understand the importance of soft skills in creating CD and CI. These promote the development of employability skills and fulfill its part in preparing graduates for the unpredictable job market. This study’s findings help, also, to develop logical reasoning in making decisions and in dealing with complex organizational issues.Originality/valueIn a practical way, in Pakistan, this study’s findings confirm the role of soft skills towards students' CD and CI.

Purpose: The objective of this study is to investigate the factors influencing the career choice of Emirati women in the satellite and space industry in the UAE. Design/Methodology/Approach: A quantitative survey was collected from 120 employees working in 37 companies in the satellite and space industry in the UAE. Ten factors were identified from the literature review and factorial analysis. RII ranked the factors and identified their level of importance. One sample t-test identified the relation between the factors and the career choice of Emirati women in the satellite and space industry in the UAE. Correlation matrix identified the interplay between the factors. Oneway ANOVA tests and independent t-tests tested the difference in perception among the respondents based on their demographic data towards the factors. Findings: Ten factors were identified and ranked in order of importance from highest to lowest: Satellite and space companies' policies; Education institutions' policies and initiatives; Familial role model; Personal beliefs; Societal role models; Government policies and initiatives; STEM education; The role of media; The role of NGOs; and cultural and societal. Seven factors are very important and three are somewhat important. All ten factors were found to positively affect the career choice of Emirati women in the satellite and space industry in the UAE using one sample t-test, t(119) > 1.96, p < .05. Originality/Value: Even though progressed and well established in the UAE, Emirati women's career choice is still affected by many factors and has not extended to its full potential, and although the career choice climate is similar for Emirati men and women in the UAE, the space and satellite industry is still male dominant. Hence, now is the time to develop Emirati women's inclusion in line with the vision and strategies of the UAE government.

This study explores the determinants of career choices among Emirati students, engaging 550 students from selected universities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Employing a phenomenological approach, the research utilized a survey questionnaire to understand the impact of various factors such as parental influence, educational institutions, university programs, and socio-economic elements on the career decisions of undergraduate Emirati students. Out of 550 targeted participants, 400 completed surveys were analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22. The findings reveal a predominant influence of parents, followed by significant roles of schools and socio-economic factors, in shaping career choices. University programs, while less directly influential, play a nuanced role, often aligning with students’ interests and parental expectations rather than directly dictating career paths. The study acknowledges its limitations, including its focus on a specific demographic within the UAE and the potential for response bias. Future research is suggested to examine the longitudinal effects of these factors on career development and to explore the impact of emerging economic trends. Additionally, comparative studies with students from other regions could provide a broader understanding of these dynamics.
