SUMMARY This study aimed to evaluate the rumen degradability of dry matter (DM), disappearance of neutral detergent fiber (NDF) of Tifton 85 hay, and fermentation parameters (pH and ruminal ammonia nitrogen) of sheep fed diets with inclusion of safflower grains (0, 7.50 and 15%). Three mixed breed lambs with average body weight of 35.50± 1.50 kg were used. The rumen degradability of dry matter and NDF of the Tifton 85 haywas analyzedby the disappearance of DM and NDF, and the kinetic parameters adjusted according to the first order asymptotic model. The samples were incubated in the rumen in descending order (96, 48, 24, 12, 6, 3, 0 hours). The determination of ruminal pH and ruminal ammonia nitrogen (RAN) was performed before feeding and 2, 4, 6 and 8 hours after feeding. Data of ruminal fermentation were tested by analysis of variance with repeated measures in time, at 5% probability. Ruminal pH values were not statistically different. When evaluating the RAN, there was a significant difference between the times and treatments for the diet with 15% safflower. The diets presented low effective degradability of DM and NDF with mean values of 18.02% and 47.40%, respectively. The safflower grain can be used up to 7.50% in the diets without altering the degradability and ruminal fermentation.

The inclusion effect of 0 (control), 15, 30, 45, 60, and 100% dry matter (DM) of Brazil nut (Bertholletia excelsa Bonpl.) cake (BNC) aiming at replacing corn silage was assessed on fermentation kinetics and effective degradability (ED) by means of in vitro gas production at 3, 6, 9, 12, 24, 48, 72 and 96 h. A randomized block design was used with six treatments, three blocks, and two replications per block. France's model was fit to the data. An in vivo experiment, conducted in fistulated ovine, assessed the effects of BNC inclusion levels of 0, 15, 30, and 45% DM replacing corn silage on ruminal parameters. Ruminal fluid samples were collected postprandial at 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18 h for determining the concentrations of short-chain fatty acids (SCFA), pH, and N-NH 3 . A completely randomized design with repeated measures in time was used, with four treatments and three replications. Results of acetate, propionate, butyrate, acetate to propionate ratio, pH, and NH 3 were submitted to analysis of variance and regression (linear and quadratic) considering treatment, time and interaction of both. In addition, the F test with a 5% (P < 0.05) significance level was applied to the data. Fermentation kinetics pattern and ED presented a linear decreasing (P < 0.05), which means a decrease in total gas production at each coproduct inclusion level. No interaction effect between treatment and time was observed for total SCFA (P > 0.40), acetic acid (P > 0.41), propionic acid (P > 0.85), butyric acid (P > 0.62) and pH (P > 0.57). BNC replacements of 0, 15, 30 and 45% did not change (P > 0.05) total SCFA concentration, as well as acetic acid concentration in ovine. When including 45% DM of BNC, concentrations (mMol/100 mL) of propionic (P < 0.001) and butyric (P < 0.022) acids was reduced in the ruminal fluid. The highest concentrations at measurement times were observed 4 hours after feeding. The pH values presented a quadratic effect on both inclusion (P < 0.001) and time (P < 0.001). An interaction was observed between treatment and time for N-NH 3 concentration (mg/ml) (P < 0.001) and acetic to propionic acids ratio (P < 0.014). Fermentation kinetics was negatively affected by Brazil nut cake inclusion to corn silage-based diet. Therefore, the use of this coproduct is recommended associated with non-structural carbohydrate sources. Objetivou-se determinar o melhor nível de inclusão de torta de amendoim (Arachis hypogaea), no suplemento concentrado de cordeiros. Foram utilizados 20 cordeiros mestiços ½ sangue Dorper, com idade média de 7 meses, mantidos em baias individuais. Os tratamentos consistiram em níveis de substituição do farelo de soja pela torta de amendoim em 0; 33,33; 66,67; e 100 %. O período experimental foi de 32 dias, dos quais 14 dias para adaptação e 18 entre rotina e coleta de dados. Durante os últimos 5 dias experimentais foram coletadas amostras diárias do ofertado, sobras e fezes, duas vezes ao dia, as 8 e 15 horas, as quais foram secas e moídas para as análises bromatológicas. Nos 8º, 9º e 10º dias do período experimental, os animais foram submetidos à observação visual para avaliação do comportamento ingestivo em reposta a dieta e as respostas fisiológicas dos animais ao ambiente. Nos dias 13o, 15o e 17o, realizou-se a medição do consumo de água em resposta a dieta oferecida. Os consumos de matéria seca, proteína bruta, nutrientes digestíveis totais, fibra em detergente neutro e fibra em detergente ácido, não foram significativos (p>0,05) com a inclusão da torta de amendoim. Os coeficientes de digestibilidade da matéria seca, fibra em detergente neutro e carboidratos não fibrosos não apresentaram diferenças (p>0,05) e o consumo de água foi similar (p>0,05) com a inclusão da torta de amendoim em substituição ao farelo de soja. A frequência cardíaca , temperatura retal e temperatura corpórea foram semelhantes (p>0,05) no período da manhã e tarde, exceto para a frequência respiratória no período da tarde que apresentou um efeito quadrático (p
