Influencing factors in the implementation of postgraduate medical e-learning: a thematic analysis

Abstract: Background Postgraduate medical e-learning (PGMeL) is being progressively used and evaluated. Its impact continues to grow, yet there are barriers to its implementation. Although more attention is now being paid to quality evaluation models, little has been written about the successful implementation of PGMeL. This study aims to determine factors and define themes influencing the successful implementation of PGMeL. Methods We performed 10 semi-structured interviews with… Show more

“…Compared to traditional education modes, students' satisfaction in e-learning increases greatly along with perceived ease of access, navigation, interactivity, and interface use (De Leeuw et al, 2019). As a rule, e-learning is externally regulated, which implies that many students are more likely to complete such assignments with largely extrinsic motivation brought into play.…”

“…During the analysis of success criteria and CSFs for MICPs, the authors develop codes and group codes into themes through thematic analysis. Thematic analysis is a research method to identify patterns in dataset and provide rich interpretations of different aspects of dataset on the research question (Braun and Victoria, 2006), which has been adopted in studies on factors, such as Perannagari and Chakrabarti (2020) and De Leeuw et al. (2019).…”

Thematic analysis is a research method to identify patterns in dataset and provide rich interpretations of different aspects of dataset on the research question (Braun and Victoria, 2006), which has been adopted in studies on factors, such as Perannagari and Chakrabarti (2020) and De Leeuw et al (2019). To reduce the variance of results from subjectivity in thematic analysis (Galanis, 2018), the authors created and categorized the codes from target articles independently, then shared and discussed the preliminary outputs until reaching a consensus (Goel et al, 2020).…”
