Information engineering for developing and testing coherent, integrated and context-dependent user interfaces

Abstract: There has been an increase in the amount and complexity of traffic on Dutch inland waterways. Traffic management shifted from local traffic control to corridor traffic management. Due to these changes, operators in nautical traffic management centers experience difficulty to gain and maintain sufficient situation awareness. In our previous research, three groups of deficiencies of current situation awareness support have been identified. To overcome these deficiencies, a theoretical framework for information e… Show more

“…This method can effectively identify the degree of outlier of the data, which does not require Assume a specific distribution model. The specific steps of the density–based algorithm (LOF) include: finding each object in the data set, and calculating the minimum inclusion points of each object, the MinPts neighborhood, and the distance between each object; and calculating the local reachable density of each object to determine its locality Outlier factor, or LOF; the outlier object is determined based on the determined LOF threshold 29,30 …”

“…In our previous work, we presented three UI concepts to better support N-ONM SA and task performance: (1) a coherent UI, (2) an integrated UI, and (3) a context-dependent adaptable user interface (Van Doorn et al 2017a). The coherent UI concept is the concept that is closest to current practice.…”

“…In our previous work, we designed and developed three user interface (UI) concepts to overcome deficiencies of current traffic management systems to increase operators' SA and to improve operators' task performance (Van Doorn et al 2017a). The three concepts are built upon each other.…”
