“…If the source of material in process exceeds 2% of the ALI, factors such as physical and chemical form of the material, containment barriers, handling or processing to be performed, frequency of work, and past experience with similar facilities or operations all may affect the determination that bioassay is warranted. Various methods for calculating a quantity of material in process that warrants bioassay program participation have been proposed (e.g., HPS 2001, IAEA 1999, Carbaugh et al 1994, Brodsky 1980and 1983, NRC 1988. The HIDP does not recommend any single method as preferred, but notes that each method has its own advantages and disadvantages, and should be exercised with good professional judgment.…”
