Informative feature selection based on the Zernike polynomial coefficients for various pathologies of the human eye cornea

Abstract: The study was devoted to the analysis of wavefront aberrations under changes of the cornea surface curvature in the human eye. The analysis was based on the representation of aberrations of the front and rear corneal surfaces as superposition of Zernike functions. Weight coefficients of the Zernike polynomials were the object of this study. The data under analysis were obtained in a number of clinical trials in the Branchevski’s eуе clinic. The most informative weight coefficients were analyzed from the point … Show more

“…In [ 52 ], the correspondence of the main canonical aberrations to various pathologies of the cornea (myopia of varying degrees) of the human eye is determined based on the Zernike polynomial coefficients calculated from the results of aberrometry in medical research. We consider a data set obtained on the basis of Femto Clinic, Excimer Center “Laser Vision Correction” (“ Branchevsky Eye Clinic ”, Samara, Russia).…”

“…The DR condition affects all parts of the retina, but changes in its central part, which are diabetic macular edema, lead to very rapid and irreversible loss of vision [1]. Vision loss can be prevented in more than 50% of cases if accurate diagnosis was performed in a timely manner and treatment was effective [2][3][4]. Worldwide, laser photocoagulation is a standard treatment.…”

“…To date, there is an extensive literature on image models (or RF models), for example, [1][2][3][4][5][6]. Much attention is paid to the modeling and processing of medical images for example, [7][8][9][10][11]. However, the vast majority of works consider twodimensional flat RF, less often their sequence.…”
