Show more

“…(b) flexibility, since one single layer provides both bearing and insulation, no need for plastering or cladding is required and it can be cast in situ or as a precast element and (c) sustainability that is gained by such a monolithic structure with easy maintenance, recycling ability and energy saving. In this context, 50 cm wall thickness has been proven by many researchers to meet the insulation criteria and to provide a sufficient bearing resistance [13,14,18,19,22].…”

“…Important also is the high rate of carbonization of ILC due to its high level of porosity. ILC has a much higher carbonization coefficient than NWC; it can absorb back about 55 kg of CO 2 per cubic meter during its service life [19]. Consequently, ILC represents a relatively eco‐friendly concrete material.…”

“…Some ILC exhibit a dry concrete density below 800 kg/m 3 and thus are no longer covered by existing LC standards [48]. Schlaich and his co-workers (Technical University Berlin, Germany) have extrapolated the application rules for LC below the existing limits for strength values and densities in DIN EN 1992 and established design rules for infra-lightweight concretes (ILC) [137][138][139].…”

“…Infra‐Lightweight Concrete has been investigated at the Chair of Conceptual and Structural Design, Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin), for more than 10 years 2,3 . It stands out from insulating concretes due to an exceptional combination of low density, hence good insulation properties, and comparatively good compressive strength.…”
