Infrared transitions and oscillator strengths of Ca and Mg

Abstract: Aims. While solar spectra contain a lot of Ca i and Mg i infrared (IR) lines, no laboratory-measured spectra of these atoms have been reported for wavenumbers below 2000 cm −1 . This study reports Ca i spectra in the 1300-4500 cm −1 range and Mg i spectra in the 1300-4500 cm −1 range. Methods. We performed a time-resolved Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy study of a plasma created by the laser ablation of MgF 2 and CaF 2 targets in a vacuum. The oscillator strengths (f-values) were calculated using quant… Show more

“…The original sources of the NIST data are Froese Fischer & Tachiev (2010) [Fro], Chang & Tang (1990) [C-T] Butler et al (1993) [But], Siegel et al (1998) [Sie]. Other sources are Aldenius et al (2007) [Ald], Civiš, S. et al (2013) [Civ] and Kurucz & Peytremann (1975) [K-P]. For the Mg i IR lines with no data found in the literature we calculated the f -values using the hydrogenic formula from Guseinov & Mamedov (2012) [Hydro].…”

“…They used the close-coupling approximation with the R-matrix technique. Moreover, Civiš et al (2013) performed oscillator strength calculations using the quantum defect theory (QDT) in the region of 800-9000 cm −1 . Froese Fischer et al (2006) performed calculations using the multi configuration Hartree-Fock method.…”

“…According to our earlier work (Civiš et al 2012a,b,c,e;2013a, 2014, the most prominent lines in this domain are due to transitions between the g-, h-, or i-Rydberg states, which are neither reported on in the literature nor listed in the atomic databases. Our aim is to present new knowledge on these high-l Ne i states.…”
