Infusion of aerial parts of Salvia chudaei Batt. & Trab. from Algeria: Chemical, toxicological and bioactivities characterization

Abstract: Salvia chudaei Batt. & Trab. from Algeria is traditionally used to relieve several dysfunctions, including inflammatory and pain-related situations.Aim of the study: This work aimed to confirm scientifically the referred properties. For that, the phenolic composition and antioxidant activity were evaluated as well as acute toxicity, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of different doses of the infusion of S. chudaei aerial parts. Materials and methods: Infusion of aerial parts of S. chudaei was prepared an… Show more

“…The results obtained by the methanolic extract of S. chudaei are in agreement with those obtained by Semaoui et al, 2021 who found also that the infusions prepared from this plant at doses of 250, 500 and 1000 mg/kg body weight exhibited moderate activity (45, 48 and 58%, respectively) 15 .…”

“…The remarkable anti-inflammatory activity could be attributed to the presence of phenolic acids and flavonoids present in these plants in different proportions. The chromatographic analysis carried out in the present work and also in the study of Semaoui et al, 2021 15 on S. chudaei allowed the identification of some polyphenolic components which have already been investigated by other researchers for their anti-inflammatory activity inflammatory.…”

“…Moreover, infusion of aerial parts of Salvia chudaei Batt. & Trab containing 4-O-caffeoylquinic acid (cryptochlorogenic acid) alleviates painful responses after carrageenan, acetic acid and formalin injection 44 . Altogether, this evidence indicates that the polyphenolic compounds present in both extracts used in this study have antinociceptive effects in different experimental models of pathological pain, although very few of them have been used in an experimental model of central neuropathic pain.…”

“…Finally, the acetone extract and the methanol extract of S. aegyptiaca L. and S. moorcroftiana Wall. ex Benth., respectively, showed antipyretic effects in murine models of hyperthermia (Table S2) [71][72][73][74][75][76][77][78]. After the genus Salvia, the species Ocimum tenuiflorum L. (syn.…”
