INHERITANCE OF CLUBROOT RESISTANCE IN CABBAGE (BRASSICA OLERACEA L. VAR. CAPITATA L.)

Abstract: T w o clubroot-susceptible cabbage cultivars, Red Acre and Golden Acre, were crossed with the resistant line, 8-41. I;, data showed that susceptibility was dominant over resistance and data from I;? and backcross progenies supported a duplicate gene I~ypothcsis. Genes Pb, and Pb, were proposed t o designate susceptible loci. All genotypes of these n v o genes were susceptible cxccpt the homozygous recessive pb,, pb,, pb,, ph, which was resistant.

“…Several studies have been carried out, such as for clubroot (Plasmodiophora brassicae) for which sources of resistance were found to be under the control of an incomplete dominant and a recessive gene, pb1 pb1, pb2 pb2 (Vriesenga and Honma, 1971;Chiang and Crete, 1970).…”

“…capitata) was polygenic and recessive . Other studies have suggested that a pair of genes determines most of the resistance to clubroot in some B. oleracea cultivars (Chiang & Crete, 1970 ;Vriesenga & Honma, 1971) . Chiang & Crete (1976) concluded that additive effects were more important than dominance in cabbage .…”
