Inhibition behaviour of mild steel by three new benzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone derivatives in 0.5 M H2SO4: experimental and computational study

Abstract: Three new benzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone derivatives namely benzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone (BST), 4-carboxyl benzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone (PBST) and 2-carboxyl benzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone (OCT) were synthesized and their inhibition effects on mild steel corrosion in 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 solution were studied systematically using gravimetric and electrochemical measurements. Weight loss results revealed that PBST exhibited the highest inhibition efficiency of 96.6%… Show more

K ads , the adsorption-desorption equilibrium constant for the SEBS and SEBS-CB was determined from the intercept of the straight line ChemistrySelect obtained in Langmuir adsorption isotherm (Figure 14), representing as follows to the Equation ( 21): [60] C…”

“…The value of K ads (12506.253 g À 1 L for Cu-SEBS and 17262.213 g À 1 L for Cu-SEBS-CB), is related to the standard free energy of adsorption (DG 0 ads ). It may characterize the interaction of adsorption molecules and metal surface, according to the Equation ( 22) [60] :…”

“…More so, smaller value of global hardness and higher value of global softness suggest higher inhibition efficacy according to the principle of hard-soft acid base (HSAB) [57], and this result favors the better inhibition performance of HBPA. Again, B-HBPA shows a higher value of dipole moment (μ), which is believed to favor the accumulation of inhibitor on the steel surface [58].…”
