Inhibition effect of Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus on the corrosion of X70 pipeline steel induced by sulfate-reducing bacteria

Abstract: Purpose Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus is a gram-negative predatory bacterium which can potentially inhibit microbiologically influenced corrosion by preying on sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB). However, no researches about the inhibition are reported according to the authors’ knowledge. The purpose of this paper was to investigate the Inhibition effect of B. bacteriovorus on the corrosion of X70 pipeline steel induced by SRB. Design/methodology/approach The effect of B. bacteriovorus on the growth of SRB was stu… Show more

“…BALOs could furthermore reduce the turnover of pipeline steel in major cities and companies around the world by inhibiting the microbiologically influenced corrosion caused by sulfate-reducing bacteria (Qiu et al, 2016). As several of their potential biocontrol applications could help ease human footprint, BALOs research is of high value and very much in line with current political trends.…”

“…The best-fit pyrite prediction equation contains multiple metabolic guilds, such as SRP, methylotrophs, and predators (Table 3), although clearly SRP comprise the dominant metabolic guild in the CASS system (Ling et al, 2018;, and their metabolic product (sulfide) is the limiting factor to forming pyrite. A previous study reported that microbial predation can decrease SRP growth and metabolic yields (Qiu et al, 2016). Methylobacteriaceae is one of the most abundant taxa in the sulfidebearing sediments that experience periodic dry-down and wet-up (Jones et al, 2017), and is also part of the best-fit pyrite prediction equation.…”

“…It can reduce the oxygen transport in the surface and increase the acidity close to the steel [16]. Factually, sodium carbonate is famous to use as inhibitor in some research, such as in carbon steel, X70 steel, many others steel [17][18][19].…”
