Inhibition of cell motility and invasion by HangAmDan-B in NCI-H460 human non-small cell lung cancer cells

Abstract: Abstract.Correlation between inhibition of cell motility and anti-invasive activity by the water extract of HangAmDan-B (HAD-B), a crude extract of eight Korean medicinal animals and plants, in NCI-H460 human non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells was investigated. Within the concentrations that were not cytotoxic, HAD-B induced significant concentrationdependent inhibition of cell motility and invasiveness of NCI-H460 cells. Treatment with HAD-B resulted in dosedependent inhibition of the activities of matr… Show more

“…HAD-B, composed of eight herbal ingredients in a crude ground power form ( Table I ), was obtained from the East-West Cancer Center of Dunsan Korean Hospital (Daejeon, Korea). The water extract of HAD-B was prepared as previously reported ( 7 ). Briefly, crude powder of HAD-B was extracted with 10 times (v/w) the amount of distilled water, at room temperature for 24 h. The sample was centrifuged at 1,000 × g for 30 min, filtered and lyophilized.…”

“…First, awareness of zootherapeutic practices and, in general, use of complementary and alternative medicines must be increased. Further studies are needed to evaluate the effects of black vulture’s blood in neoplastic cells in vitro , as has been done with other plant and animal based remedies [34]. In addition, clinical outcomes of Coragyps atratus use must be evaluated in cancer patients, to determine its pharmacological properties and identify possible health hazards resulting from these types of practices, especially when animal derivatives are commercialized without adequate quality control.…”
